Associate Research Scientist, Universities Space Research Association, June 1992 - present

Under contract to the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Dr. Whitlock is responsible for the following: coordinating all education and outreach activities within the Astrophysics Science Division (ASD); creating and distributing multi-media educational materials related to ASD projects; creating and leading the development of the Imagine the Universe! website (a multi-level, multi-disciplinary site for teaching grades 9-14 how X-ray, gamma-ray, and cosmic ray astronomy probe the structure and evolution of the universe); creating and leading the development of the StarChild website (an award-winning general astronomy and space exploration site for grades K-8); taking analog data from the P78-1 satellite, digitizing it, developing the aspect solution, transferring it into FITS data products and data bases; maintaining an active participation in the X-ray research astronomy community. Her astronomical interests are mainly in the time variability of X-ray binaries. Previously responsible for restoration of data from the Ariel 5, Vela 5B, COS-B, SAS-2, OSO 8 , and HEAO 1 satellites; creation of FITS data products and data bases from these satellites.
