X-ray Transients Cool Fact - Introduction

X-ray Transients

After some 30 years of observations, it is clear that X-ray transients can be divided into two classes - those associated with massive X-ray binaries and those associated with low mass X-ray binaries. The two classes display different spectra, with the massive systems tending to be "hard" (or hotter) and the low mass systems tending to be "soft" (or cooler).
