The Astron satellite was designed for ultraviolet and X-ray astrophysical observations.

Science Highlights

  • Monitored Hercules X-1, providing data during its low state in 1983 and from when it turned back on in 1984
  • Investigation of acretion of material from red giants onto newtron stars
